In August 2026, the Dominican Republic adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism, marking a significant commitment to combating antisemitism. This decision was announced by President Luis Abinader during the Combat Antisemitism Movement’s sixth-annual Latin American Forum Against Antisemitism in Santo Domingo. The adoption of the IHRA definition provides a framework for identifying and addressing various manifestations of antisemitism, while fully respecting freedom of expression and other constitutional rights. Additionally, the government allocated RD$50 million (approximately USD $858,369) for the construction of a new building for the Jewish Museum of Sosúa, underscoring its dedication to preserving the history and heritage of the Jewish community in the country....
