Panama is one of the safest countries in the world for Jewish and Israeli travelers. Antisemitism is negligible: the Jewish community of roughly 15,000-30,000 is deeply integrated, Panama has had two Jewish presidents, and the current mayor of Panama City, Mayer Mizrachi Matalon, is Jewish. Community members wear kippot and Magen David jewellery openly without incident. Panama adopted the IHRA working definition of antisemitism in 2023 and is the only country in Latin America that does not recognise a Palestinian state. In May 2026 President Isaac Herzog made the first-ever Israeli presidential state visit to Panama, meeting President Mulino and the local Jewish community. Israel's National Security Council maintains no travel warning for Panama. The only antisemitic incident recorded in the past year was a single placard at a protest in May 2026; no violence against Jews has been reported. Separately, the main suspect in the 1994 Hezbollah bombing of Alas Chiricanas Flight 901 was extradited to Panama in April 2026 and is now facing trial - an accountability milestone, not a current threat. Ordinary crime, which is not directed at Jews, warrants normal precautions: avoid the city of Colon after dark, and do not travel to the Darien region south of Meteti or the Mosquito Gulf....

Incredibly Jewish friendly. Don't know why this isn't a totally safe rating. I was welcome everywhere, and our group members were openly wearing kippot, Mogen David necklaces and anything else. Our hotel was on Via Israel. Vendors on the street who were not Jewish still had Israeli flags!
