Jewish/Israeli symbols should be kept to a minimum
In April 2026, an arson attack targeted the Beth Yaakov Synagogue and Jewish community building in Skopje, North Macedonia. Two individuals set fire to the entrance, causing material damage but no injuries — the first incident of its kind since 1945. Israeli ambassador Vivian Aisen condemned it as a deeply troubling antisemitic incident and urged swift action by the authorities, and the European Jewish Congress also condemned the attack. No further incidents have been reported since. The Jewish community in North Macedonia is small but integrated, diplomatic relations with Israel remain positive, and the Israeli government maintains a 'safe to travel' status with normal precautions advised; given the arson attack, Jewish and Israeli travelers should remain vigilant....
