On August 25, 2026, a man maced and punched a passenger on a CTA Red Line train while making antisemitic remarks; authorities are asking the public for help identifying the suspect. In June 2026, Oak Park police investigated antisemitic vandalism at a townhouse development site where a home was defaced with an antisemitic message, and in March 2026 a Chicago man was charged with threatening to shoot up a synagogue. Overall crime in Chicago has remained low, and the Israeli government maintains a 'safe to travel' status for the United States with normal precautions. Given the recent assault and the continuing pattern of incidents, Jewish and Israeli travelers should be alert on public transit and in public spaces, report threatening behavior to police, and stay informed about local developments....
