In late August, a restaurant in Elsternwick received a bomb threat after hosting a Jewish-Greek Shabbat dinner; it was reported to police. On September 1, Glen Eira Council adopted a plan against rising local antisemitism, including staff training, clearer incident reporting and security upgrades at high-risk sites. This follows earlier incidents including antisemitic graffiti on synagogues and a March 2026 case in which a 13-year-old was charged with 52 offences for allegedly abusing Jewish families and swerving a stolen car toward them. From a Melbourne and now Israeli Jew, Melbourne is mostly safe. Just try to avoid the protests in the city, and be careful where you wear a kippah, but other than that, you should be fine.
