In the past year, Cottbus, Germany, has experienced several incidents involving antisemitic and right-wing extremist activities. In April 2026, a large swastika was painted on the city's synagogue, and a burning flare was thrown into an alternative housing project. In July 2026, a suspected right-wing arson attack targeted the 'Zelle 79' housing project. In September 2026, the 'Regenbogenkombinat' cultural center was defaced with swastikas and the message 'We hate you.' In response, Brandenburg's state government established a special investigative unit and increased police presence in Cottbus.
