Stay alert, keep symbols hidden, don’t identify as Jewish or Israeli
In the past year, Rotterdam has experienced a serious antisemitic incident: in March 2026, four individuals aged 17 to 19 from Tilburg were arrested for arson and an explosion at the entrance of a synagogue in the Blijdorp district; the fire self-extinguished and no injuries were reported. In August 2026, the Israeli ambassador faced protests during a deportation commemoration in Rotterdam. The Dutch government has also imposed travel bans on Israeli ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich amid the conflict in Gaza. The Israeli government's travel advisory for the Netherlands remains at 'be cautious when traveling.' Given the attack on a synagogue within the past year, the safety level for Jewish and Israeli travelers in Rotterdam is assessed as 'warning'....
