Romania has experienced several antisemitic incidents over the past year, including the vandalization of a Jewish cemetery in Reghin in April 2026 where multiple gravestones were desecrated, and the promotion of Nazi ideology by six young individuals in Brașov. The Israeli Embassy in Romania condemned the Reghin desecration, noting the global escalation of antisemitism, and in December 2025 the Romanian Parliament passed a law banning antisemitic speech with prison terms for disseminating fascist, Legionary, racist and xenophobic materials. Romania maintains a diplomatic relationship with Israel and its Jewish community is active. The Israeli government considers Romania safe for travel with standard precautions, but given the recurring incidents Jewish and Israeli travelers should remain vigilant....

I had no issues in Romania (Bucharest, Bran, etc.) this year. I’m not visibly Jewish but it never came up so I’m not sure about other experiences. There are gorgeous old synagogues, great food, friendly people.

In Romania, I was told it’s massively unsafe and if people hear you speaking in English, there will be trouble. … Completely safe, I see no danger living here.

Romania is a pretty good option as well. Israelis love going to Romania so much that a few places even have stuff in Hebrew (like the Therme spa).
